13"x19" doubled, fabric of choice.
Example fabric has been split up. Our baby sitting bags will be just plain fabric, not lined
One improvement for the girls is to add tabs at the bottom instead of holes. 3"x5" tabs. Fold in half length wise. finger fold or iron to see center line. Open and fold raw edges into center. Iron. Fold over once more, folding raw edges into another layer. Ironing, leaving a piece about 3/4"x5". Sew along both sides of long tab. Cut in half for 2 tabs. Fold in half with fold inside the bag, even with the seam to be sewn.
Make casing 3/4-1" wide on both tops. Sew bag with wrong sides together (tabs inside sides on bottom, beginning immediately under the casing. We didn't hand stitch the raw edge of the ends of the casing, but would look better if done.
Image shows hole, but tabs are easier. |
Turn bag. Thread Paracord through one casing, across small unsewn hole, through other side casing pulling both lengths of cord to bottom tab. Tie a knot through tab, making sure the cord is not pulling top or side too tight. Cut extra cord off. Thread cord through the other side, and tying off after knitting in the tab.
Drawstring bag can be tightened to keep contents inside, and is now a backpack.
